Audiobooks are increasing in popularity.
Though the format has been around for a long time: on cassette tape, then CD and now as downloads over the Internet. In fact, I remember having vinyl albums of Bill Cosby’s comedy when I was a child – which I gather qualify as audio listening books.
And, if you think about it, the act of listening to stories goes back to the days before the majority of the population could read.
Listening to a storyteller used to happen around a fire pit.
Today it is happening on subways, during morning jogs, while working out in the gym, during daily commutes, laying on the beach… the possibilities are endless…
And why not. Though I love reading a physical book, it is much easier (and lighter) to pack my mp3 player loaded with great titles when I take a roadtrip, go to the grocery store or head out for a walk.
